Overview

This screen displays all the information you need for managing your multilingual website. For each type of element selected, will display a list of all items of that type (according to the filters that have been selected). For each item (row of the list) will display the items that are their translations into different languages along with their publication status.

How to Access

Select ComponentsKM FasTrans Translations Dashboard from the drop-down menu on the back-end of your Joomla! installation or click the icon Translations Dashboard in the control panel.

Description

In the KM FasTrans: Translations Management Dashboard tab you can publish, unpublish and trash translation items, create Translations Sets, and assign, unassign or change items to Translations Sets.

In version 1.3.5 we have changed the icons representing the actions to be taken on an item. The documentation will be updated to reflect these changes but until then below is a guide to the changes:

  • - Edit an item: Item-Id replaced by

Column Headers

The Translations Dashboard tab has the following column titles.

  • #. An indexing number automatically assigned by KM FasTrans for ease of reference.
  • Checkbox. Check this box to select one or more Sets. To select all Sets, check the box in the column heading. After one or more boxes are checked, click a toolbar button to take an action on the selected Set or Sets. Some toolbar actions, such as 'Mark Set as Completed', can work with multiple Sets. Others, such as 'Refresh Status of All Sets' works with all Sets. If the set status is not 'Modified' you will can not check it.
  • ID. This is a unique identification number for this item assigned automatically by Joomla!. It is used to identify the item internally, and you cannot change this number
  • Menu/Category/Extension/Module Type. This column title is variable depending on the selected element type. It is 'Category' in most cases, but it can be 'Extension' for Categories, 'Menu' for Menu-Items, 'Module Type' for Modules, or nothing for 'Menus'. Its content for each row is what the heading says. For Categories and Menu-Items, clicking on the heading will order the elements by its hierarchy of descendants (version 1.1.0 or later).
  • Title . The item title.
  • Translation Set. The set of translations to which this element belongs (if any). It consists of the 'Set Number' and the 'Set Status' (Complete, Incomplete or Modified). If you click the Set Number you will see the Set Details Screen (it is explained below). If you hover the mouse over the Set Status Icon you will see the status, and if it is 'Completed' you will also see the completion date and time.

The following columns contain the items of the set of translations that are translations of this item. There are two columns by language and as many languages as they are installed or indicated on the filter '- Shown Languages -'. For each language:

KM FasTrans Dashboard Example

  • Trans-id. Contains the following elements:
    • A). If and only if there is an ID that is translation of the ID of the row.
      • The ID of the element that is the translation of the item displayed in the row into the language of the heading. (in the image above the id:588 is the translation to Spanish of the ID:277). It may also be the ID of the element of the row if the column is its own language (in the image above ID:277). If the ID is clickable (defined permissions allow), when clicked will lead to the edit screen. If no translation exists there will be no ID (as in the column for French language).
      • An orange right arrow. If clickable (defined permissions allow), when clicked will lead to screen for changing the ID of this translation in the set of translations (explained below). If no translation exists there will be no right arrow (as in the column for French language).
      • A red down arrow. If clickable (defined permissions allow), when clicked will lead to screen for unassigning the ID of this translation in the set of translations (explained below). If no translation exists there will be no down arrow (as in the column for French language).
      • A red minus sign. If clickable (defined permissions allow), when clicked will change the status of this ID to 'Trashed'. The Status Set will change to 'Not completed' if it was 'Completed'. If the Item ID is a Category, all descendant categories will be trashed.
    • B). If and only if there is no ID that is translation of the ID of the row.
      • A green up arrow. If clickable (defined permissions allow), when clicked will lead to the item creation screen for assigning the ID of this translation in the set of translations (explained below). If a translation exists there will be no up arrow.
      • A green plus sign. If clickable (defined permissions allow), when clicked will lead to the item creation screen for creating an item to be the translation of the item of the row in the set of translations (See KM FasTrans New/Edit Translations Help). If a translation exists there will be no plus sign.
  • Status. Whether this translation item is published or not (or trashed). When cklicked it will change the status of the translation item:
    • From published to unpublished.
    • From unpublished to published.
    • From trashed to published.

When you hover the mouse over the ID, the arrows or the + or - signs, a legend will show to help you understand what is going to happen when clicking.

Set Details Screen

This screen is displayed when you click on the number of a set on the Set Number column. It shows details of the translations set:

KM FasTrans Dashboard Set Details

It contains one line for each Joomla item in the set. Each line shows the ID, your language, whether or not published and the date and user who added or changed the item.

The meaning of the data shown at the beginning of the screen is as follows:

  • Created on: The date that the set of translations was created.
  • Current status: the current state set:
    •     Completed: the set contains an ID for each published Content Language.
    •     Not completed: The set lacks at least one translation ID or not every ID in the set is published.
    •     Modified: the set is complete but was subsequently amended.
  • Last status change: the last transition of states (for example from Not Completed to Completed).
  • Last action taken: last action taken on the set (assign, unassign, change ..).
  • Last element modification: the ID of the last element that was modified.

Assign/Change ID Screen

This screen is displayed when you click the orange right arrow or the green up arrow on any column/row of the translations screen. It shows a list of the items that can be choosen as translations. You have an explanation of what you are going to do when clicking the element title.

KM FasTrans Dashboard Assign/Change Item

The elements in the list have the same element type that you are working with in the translations screen (articles in this example).

They are always filtered by language, extension (if they are categories), module type (if they are modules) or menu (if they are menu items). You can also filter the list by "Not assigned" or "All" using the combo in the right top.  By default, the value of this filter is "Not assigned", meaning that the list only contains elements not assigned to another translation set. If you choose "All" the list will show all elements, assigned and not assigned, and if you select an element that is already assigned to another translations set, it will be unassigned from that translations set and assigned to the current one.

If you clicked the orange right arrow, you are unassigning the current ID and assigning a new one. The old ID will not be assigned to any translation set.

If you clicked the green up arrow, you are assigning a new ID. If the translation set already existed, the new ID will be added to the existing translation set. If there were no translation set, a new one will be created.

The assign and change processes are done automatically when you edit or create a new translation item using the KMFasTrans PRO version.

Unassign ID Screen

This screen is displayed when you click the red down arrow on any column/row of the translations screen. You can choose to continue or to cancel.

KM FasTrans Dashboard Unassign Item

Toolbar

At the top right you will see the toolbar:

KM FasTrans Dashboard Toolbar

  • Mark Set as Completed. When the status of a Set of Translations is 'Modified' you can manually change the status to 'Complete'. You will probably want to do that when all changes you had made to one or more items on the set had been finished. You can do this one at a time by clicking the Set Status of the desired set, or you can change the status of several items at once by checking their ID's (in the second column) and clicking this button. (Except if the element type is 'Categories'. In this case you are only allowed to make changes one at a time).
  • Refresh Status of All Sets. Some changes in the state of the sets of translations are not updated immediately. To ensure that the state is updated you should press this button in the following cases:
    • - When you add or delete a content language.
    • - When changing the status of a category that has descendants.
    • - At any time when there is some doubt whether the state is updated.
  • Options. Opens the KMFasTrans Options window. Allows setting of default permissions used for all content in this component. More information in the KMFasTrans User Manual.
  • Help. Opens this Help Screen.

Control Panel, Installed Languages and Content Languages

At the top left, above the columns, you will see four more links as shown below:

KM FasTrans translations Dashboard.Other tabs

  • Control Panel. Shows the KM FasTrans Control Panel. It contains links to various elements and important news about the component. It also contains the status of the four default items mentioned above. See KM FasTrans - Control Panel Screen.
  • Installed Site Languages. Shows all installed Site languages and allows to establish the default language for the site. It is almost identical to Language Manager Installed-Site Screen and it is here for ease and convenience. See KM FasTrans - Installed Site Screen.
  • Installed Administrator Languages. Shows all installed Administrator languages and allows to establish the default language for the administrator. It is almost identical to Language Manager Installed-Administrator Screen and it is here for ease and convenience. See KM FasTrans - Installed Administrator Screen.
  • Content Languages. Shows the Content Languages available for the web site. See KM FasTrans - Content Languages Screen.

List Filters

Filter by Partial Category/Extension/Menu/Module Type, Partial Title, Id or Set

You can filter the list of items either by typing part of the title.

KM FasTrans translations Dashboard.Filters

If you have a large number of items on the list, you can use these filters to find the desired item(s) quickly.

The left filter is dependent on the selection you have made on the type of element in the dropdown 'Select Element Type'. You will see a Category filter for most types of elements. It will be Extension for Categories, Menu for Menu Items, Module Type for Modules an none for Menus. In this way this filter allows you to search for articles, banners, contacts..  within an specific Category, or for Categories of an specific Extension, or Menu Items within a Menu or Modules of a Module Type.

You can enter some string and press 'Search' to display the matching items. You can type whole words or part of a word. For example, "ooml" will match all elements whose Category or Extension or ... have the word "Joomla!" in them.

The right filter displays for all types of elements. If you type some string diferent from 'id:xxxx' or 'set:xxxx' and pres 'Search' it will display only elements whose title contains the typed string.

If you type 'id:xxx' where xxx is a number, it will display the element whose id is 'xxx' if any.

If you type 'set:xxx' where xxx is a number, it will display all the elements that are assigned to the set of translations whose number is xxx.

Drop-down Lists

Through these dropdown lists you select the items you want to query. When nothing is selected, as shown in the figure, the list does not contain any items. At a minimum you need to select a type of element from the list "- Select Element Type -"

KM FasTrans translations Dashboard.Dropdown Lists

  • Drop down list: "- Select 'From' Language -"

In this combo box you select a language from the set of languages chosen in multiselect drop-down list "- Shown Languages -". When you select a language, the list will only contain elements whose language is the language selected. If you do not select any language, the list will have elements in any language (from the set of shown languages only). Moreover, the column for the language selected will be placed as the first column following the column "Translation Set".

  • Drop-down list: "- Shown Languages -"

In this combo box you select the languages you want to display from the set of content languages. You can choose languages in a specific status and / or other languages.

The selection determines the number of columns to display, and therefore the volume of information displayed in the window. If your web site has many languages, this feature allows you to display only those you are dealing with at any given time, thus reducing the amount of information to make it more manageable, and also reducing the response time from the server.

The options are:

KM FasTrans translations Dashboard.Shown Languages List

    •   Published: display all and only published content languages.
    •   Unpublished:  display all and only unpublished content languages..
    •   Any state:display languages in any state but the set of languages to show depend on the checkboxes checked:
      • No checkbox checked or all checkboxes checked: display all languages regardless of their status.
      • One or more checkboxes checked: display languages checked regardless of their status.

This way you can choose:

    • The languages in a given status (Status: Published or Unpublished | Additional: none checked).
    • The languages in a given status and a selection of languages regardless of the status (Status: Published or Unpublished | Additional: one or more checked).
    • All languages regardless of the status (Status: Any State | Additional: none checked) or (Status: Any State | Additional: all checked)
    • A selection of languages regardless of the status (Status: Any State | Additional: one or more checked).

Unlike the rest of dropdown lists where, when you click a value, the screen is automatically reloaded with the value selected, in this dropdown, being multiple choice, after selecting the desired values you need to press the orange right arrow to reload the page with those values.

  • Drop-down list: "- Select Element Type -"

In this combo box you select the type of the elements you want to display. You can choose any Joomla element that can be tagged by language. You need to select a type of element from the this drop-down list to have some element listed.

  • Drop-down list: "- Select Element Status -"

In this dropdown list you can select the status of the items displayed on the screen. This selection only affects the elements whose ID and title appear in the columns ID and Title. It does not affect the elements whose ID appears in any language columns, except for the column whose language is the same as the title. For example:

KM FasTrans translations Dashboard.Selecte Element Status List

In this example the element status is not selected. This means that the status of the elements shown in the list will be published or unpublished. The first in the list with ID = 43 and Title = Spotted Qoll has status 'published' as you can see in the English (UK) column. However, the item with ID=90 is trashed and is being displayed because the status selection only affects the ID 43 (on this row). Should you change the status of ID 43 to trashed for instance, the row will desappear from the list. You should select status 'Trashed' or 'All' in the dropdown-list to see it again.

  • Drop-down list: "- Select Set -"

In this dropdown list you can select items to display based on their membership in a Set of Translations.
You have to keep in mind that when there are several elements belonging to the same Set of Translations, the same Set Number will be displayed in each of the rows of the elements it contains, and in this case all the language columns will contain the same information in each of these rows. If you want to limit the number of rows displayed on this list you can make a selection on this drop-down list as follows:

    • 'All sets and No set': will show all items that are assigned to any set, one line per set, and all items not belonging to any set.
    • 'All sets, all entries': will show all items that are assigned to any set. Same set will be repeated in as many rows as assigned items.
    • 'All sets, one entry per set': will show all items that are assigned to any set, one row per set.
    • 'No set': will show all items not belonging to any set."
  • Drop-down list: "- Select Set Status-"

In this dropdown list you can select items to display based on their membership in a Set of Translations and the Status of the Set. When you select any of the values in this list will show only those elements that belong to sets of translations whose status is the one chosen in the dropdown list.

As you can see there is plenty of choice and filtering of the items you want to deal with at any given time. But be careful because the combination of all the choices may show an empty list.

Quick Tips

  • If no rows are shown check the - Select Element Type - and - Shown Languages - drop-down selections.
  • If you do not find what you are looking for, clear all filters, unselect all drop-down boxes (except Element Type), select 'All' as Element Status and select 'Any state' and check all as Shown Languages. Also verify that some Element Type is selected and that there is at least one item of the selected element type.

The item type is selected in the Translations Dashboard screen in the drop-down list - Select Element Type -.

Screenshot

The fields displayed on this screen are the same as those with standard editing screens of Joomla! plus some help buttons. Therefore not all fields will be explained in detail, but those most significant or their importance in the operation of KMFasTrans so dictate.

 new edit translation item 1

Language tabs

As shown, the screen is divided into two parts with the same structure. On the left we have the source element of the translation, and on the right side we have the element translated from the source. That is, we are translating from the left side to right side. The language of the source element is indicated in the selected tab on the left side (English (UK) in the example), and the language of the translated element is the selected tab on the right (Frances (FR) in the example).

Left side: there will be as many tabs as items has the Set of Translations. If there is no Set of Translations there will be only one tab. If you selected a language in the drop down list "- Select "From" language -" on theTranslations Dashboard screen, the default selected tab will be that language. If not, it will be the language of the element whose title is displayed in the row on which you have clicked on the Translations Dashboard screen to come to this screen.

Right side: there will be as many tabs as content languages had been selected in the drop down list "- Shown Languages -" on theTranslations Dashboard screen. The language of the default selected tab will be the same as the language of the column that you clicked on the Translations Dashboard screen to come to this screen.

You can change the source language by clicking on any tab on the left side, and the same with the target language on the right side. This way you can, from a single screen, translate from any language to any language.

Copy buttons

In the top center of the screen you can see a button "Copy All", and also in the center next to each fieldset header of options you can see a "Copy" button.

Clicking the button "Copy All" has the same effect as clicking simultaneously all the "Copy" buttons existing in the form.

Clicking a "Copy" button copies the contents of all fields on the left side on the corresponding fields of the right side in the fieldset identified by the header.

For example, clicking the "Copy" button to the left of the header "New Article" will copy the contents of all fields of fieldset "Edit Article" on the corresponding fields in the fieldset "New Article", but will not be copied any field of fieldset "Publishing Options", as it has its own "Copy" button.

Exceptions to the fields that are copied are all those on the right side that are language dependent.

The value of the Alias is not copied in order to be automatically set based on the title in the new language when saving the item.

Language dependent fields

In the example of the figure above, the value in the "Category" field on the left side will not be copied over the same field in the right side because the categories in French (FR) are different from the categories in English (UK).

The same applies to all language-dependent fields, which not only are not overwritten with the value of the field source of translation but also the values they contain are only those in the language selected in the tab. In the example shown, the drop-down list of categories only contains items in French.

Translate buttons

In some parts of the form you can see a button "Translate" next to a field. When pressing this button the field next to the button will be filled with the target language translation of the same field value in the source language. In the example, by clicking the "Translate" button to the right of the title, we will see that the Title field on the right side is filled with the French translation of the Title field in English, resulting in the value "Parcs australiens".

The translation is done by Google Translator, and due to technical constraints in the implementation, sometimes you have to press the "Translate" button more than once to get the translation. At other times you can get better translation by changing the source language on the left side if you have more than one.

Language field

Right above the ID you can see a dropdown list of languages. The list contains as many languages as tabs, and lets you change the language of the item being edited or the item you are creating.

You only need to use this drop down list when you need to change the language of an item, either because it is wrong or because you want to reuse an existing item in language "All" for example.

If you change the language of an existing item, you should consider the following implications:

    • A. If there is no Set of Translations, ie there is only one language.

- It keeps the existing item but with the new language.

    • B. There is a Set of translations, ie there are at least two languages.
      • B.1. The Set contains only two languages (elements):
        • B.1.1. The new language is the other language in the Set:

- The set of translations is deleted and two elements remain not assigned to any Set, both in the same language.

        • B.1.2. The new language is NOT the other language in the Set :

- It will keep the same Set with the same items he had, but one of them (the one whose language was changed) in a different language.

      • B.2. The Set contains more than two languages:
        • B.2.1. The new language is contained in the Set:

- The item whose language is changed replaces the one which existed before with that language. The Set is kept but contains one less element.

        • B.2.2. The new language is not contained in the Set:

- The Set will stay with the same items he had, but one of them (the one whose language was changed) in a different language.

Changing the language of an element while creating it makes no sense and we discourage their use. Instead it is preferable to select the tab that corresponds to the language you want to create the new element.

The following explains some features of some fields that deserve to be commented:

Element Type: Articles.

Fieldset: Article Permissions

When setting permissions on an article item, click on "Copy" will copy all the permissions, as shown in the drop-down value "Select New Setting". However, as in Joomla core, to see the real value, ie the "Calculated Setting" you need to save the form.

new edit translation item 2

In the example shown in the picture above you can see that the value of the "Select New Setting" for action "Edit" is "Inherited" in both languages, but the value of the "Calculated Setting" is "Allowed" in the source language and "not Allowed" in the target language because the new item we are creating has not yet been saved.

The above is also applicable to Category Permissions.

Element Type: Menu-Items.

Fieldset: Details

 new edit translation item 3

All that follows refers to the example shown in the figure above.

Field: Menu Item Type.

This field is inherited from the source language can not be changed.

Field: Menu Location

This field contains the menus created in Spanish (ES) and only those.

Field: Parent Item

It contains the menu-items that belong to the selected menu in "Menu Location". By changing the content of "Menu Location", automatically and without saving data previously, the content of "Parent Item" is adapted to change and shall contain only the menu-items belonging to the new menu.

Fieldset: Layout Options.

Field:Select Categories

new edit translation item 4

This is a multiselect field that like all other fields that are language dependent contains only categories whose language is the target language (Español (ES) in this example).

The field does not contain the value "- All Categories -" since only categories whose language is the target language shall be selected. So if you want to select all categories from the dropdown list they can be selected like any group of consecutive categories, ie clicking on the first and clicking on the last while holding down the Shift key.

All the above is applicable to any other multi-selection drop-down list.

 Fieldset: Menu Item Associations.

new edit translation item 5

This choice will only display if the Language Filter parameter 'Menu Associations' is set to 'Yes'. This association will let the Language Switcher module redirect to the associated menu item in another language. If used, make sure to display the Language switcher module on the concerned pages. A menu item set to "All" languages can't be associated.

In KM FasTrans, by default, for each language, the menu item of that language in the same translation set is automatically selected. You can change that to 'No association' only.

In the example in the figure above you can see that in the source language (English (UK) on the left side) there is already an association of the menu-item "Featured Articles" (the title of the menu-item in English) with the menu -item "Artículos destacados" (the title of the menu-item in Spanish in the same set of translations). Now, that we are creating the translation into French, the new menu-item in French (see right side) will be associated with the menu-item "Artículos destacados" in Spanish and the menu-item "Featured Articles" in English.

Fieldset: Module Assignment for this Menu Item.

This field contains the list of modules whose language is "All" or the target language. It provides a quick way to assign modules to this menu-item. By clicking on a module in the list will be opened a window displaying the Joomla! form to edit the module. In this form you can do the assignment menu-item and module. However, to exploit the advantages provided by KMFasTrans, the form for creatiing or editing modules provided by KMFasTrans must be used.

Element Type: Modules.

Module type: Any.Fieldset:Menu Assignment

 new edit translation item 6

In the Menu Assignment fieldset the assignment of the module to the different menus takes place. The first thing you notice is that this fieldset lacks the Copy button. This is because all information in the fieldset is language-dependent.

In KMFasTrans, the menus and menu-items you see in the fieldset are only those that lead to pages where the module can be displayed. These pages depend on the type and language of the module and the language of the menu items.

So the menu items are filtered using the rules in the table below:

Module Type Module Language Menu-Item Language Menu-item shownl
Menu Language X diferent from "All" Language X Yes
Menu Language X diferent from "All" Language "All" Yes
Menu Language "All" Language "All" Yes
Diferent from Menu Language X diferent from "All" Language X Yes
Diferent from Menu Language X diferent from "All" Language "All" Yes
Diferent from Menu Language "All" Any Yes

In all other cases different from those indicated in the table, the module will not be accessible from the menu item, so it adds clarity to the fieldset eliminating all those menu items that lead to pages where the module never will display and also those menus that after the filtration above do not contain any menu item.

Remember that a menu module assigned to Language "All" should display a menu wich only contains menu items assigned to Language "All". This module will display for all Content Languages.

Rememeber also that a menu module assigned to a specific Language may display a menu containing menu items assigned to the same language as well as menu items assigned to Language "All". This module will display for the specific language only.

With KMFasTrans you will not have to worry about whether a module will be displayed or not on a page as the menu items shown in this fieldset automatically met the above rules.

To further increase the clarity of the fieldset, in the source language the unselected menu items and the menus that do not contain any menu item selected are hidden.

In the example of the figure above you can see that in the source language (English (UK) menus and menu items appear only in English or in language, "All" (User Menu), and in the target language (Español (ES)) menus and menu items appear only in Spanish or in language "All" (None in this example).

Toolbar

At the top right you will see the toolbar:

new edit translation item 7

      • Save. Saves the target language item and stays in the same screen.
      • Save & Close. Saves the target language item and returns to the Translations Dashboard Screen.
      • Save & Next. Saves the target language item and selects the next target language tab.In the example of the previous figure would save the item in Spanish language, and would select the item in French language. This saves time when an item is being translated into multiple languages simultaneously.
      • Cancel (if creating a new item) or Close (if editing an existing item).  Returns to the Translations Dashboard screen without saving the work. Cancel will not create a new item and Close will not save any modification.
      • Help. Opens this Help Screen.

If you are creating a new item, saving the form will automatically create a new Set of Translations if none existed, or will extend the existing Set with the new item. In both cases a new tab will appear on the left side with the language of the newly created item.

Quick Tips

      • If you are creating a new element, for example an article in Spanish language, and the article needs to be in a category, there must be at least one category in Spanish language for the article. If there is no category in Spanish, the categories drop-down list will show the text " - No Category found for this language -" and you will not be allowed to save the article. So it is desirable to translate the items in the order they are needed, Categories, Articles, Menus, Menu Items, etc..

This is applicable to any element type.

      • If you want to modify an item in the target language and want to keep an eye on the current contents of this element while editing, you can select the same element in the source language. The selected language tabs on both the source and the target will show the same language.
      • If you are using the "Translate" button for automatic translation from Google and are not satisfied with the result, you can change the source language to another language (if you have translations to more than one language). Google's translations are often different depending on the source language of the translation.

Column Headers

The Content Languages tab has the following column titles.

    • #. An indexing number automatically assigned by KM FasTrans for ease of reference.
    • Checkbox. Check this box to select one or more items. To select all items, check the box in the column heading. After one or more boxes are checked, click a toolbar button to take an action on the selected item or items. Many toolbar actions, such as Publish and Unpublish, can work with multiple items. Others, such as Edit, New only work on one item at a time. If multiple items are checked and you press Edit, the first item will be opened for editing. Note that Create Default Home is a general process that does not affect any item.
    • Title. Names of Content Languages
    • Native Title. Native Names of Content Languages
    • Description . The language description.
    • Language Tag. The exact prefix used for the language installed or to be installed.
    • URL language code. Code appended to the site URL.
    • Image prefix. Prefix of the image file for the language when using the "Use image flags" Language Switcher basic option.
    • Status. Whether this content language is published or not. If published it will display as a choice in the Language Switcher module in frontend.
    • Ordering. The appearance order
    • Home. An indicator of existence of a Home page for the language.
    • ID. This is a unique identification number for this item assigned automatically by Joomla!. It is used to identify the item internally, and you cannot change this number. When creating a new item, this field displays 0 until you save the new entry, at which point a new ID is assigned to it.

Toolbar

At the top right you will see the toolbar:

KM FasTrans Content Languages Toolbar

    • New. Creates a new item and opens the editing screen for this item.
    • Create Default Home.Creates the items asigned to language "All" needed for a multilanguage site. When clicked, it will create automatically:
      • A menu with title "Menu-All", menu type "defaultallmenu" and type "Category List".
      • A menu item with title "Menu Item-All" in the menu "Menu-All" as the default Home page for language "All".
      • A menu module with title "Menu Module-All" in the position "default_all_menu_module_position" (a fictitious one) linked to menu "Menu-All" and unpublished.
      • A category with title "Root Category-All-Articles" that is required for "Menu Item-All".

Each time this button is pressed, KM FasTrans will try to create these four items and will create only thouse that do not exist yet. You will be informed of the items that already existed and those just created. You can also know at any moment the status of these items in the control panel screen.

Once created, your site is ready for multilanguage (if you already have configured the Language Switcher and the System-Language Filter Plugin). You don't have to use these items for anything ( and is better if you don't use them at all as if problems arise you could delete them and recreate pressing this button. An exception to this might be the category, which may be used freely if needed.). If you need a menu, menu item and menu module assigned to language 'All' you can create as many as you need without changing anything of the items that have been created automatically.

If you already had this infrastructure in place before installing KM FasTrans, you can just ignore the warning messages, or you can click on the button anyway because it will not affect what you had previosly. The only change will be that the default home page for language 'All' will be the new automatically created menu item with title "Menu Item-All".

    • Edit. Opens the editing screen for the selected item. If more than one item is selected (where applicable), only the first item will be opened. An item can also be opened for editing by clicking on its Title or Name.
    • Publish. Publishes selected items. Works with one or multiple items selected.
    • Unpublish. Unpublishes selected items. Works with one or multiple items selected.
    • Trash. Sends selected items to the trash. Works with one or multiple items selected.
    • Options. Opens the Language Manager Options window. Allows setting of default permissions used for all content in this component.
    • Help. Opens this Help Screen.

Control Panel, Installed Languages and Dashboard Tabs

At the top left, above the columns, you will see four more links as shown below:

KM FasTrans Content Languages.Other tabs

It is almost identical to Language Manager Installed-Administrator Screen and it is here for ease and convenience. See KM FasTrans - Installed Administrator Screen.

List Filters

Filter by Partial Title

You can filter the list of items either by typing part of the title.

Help16-extension manager-manage-filter-name.png

If you have a large number of items on the list, you can use this filter to find the desired item(s) quickly. Enter part of the title and press 'Search' to display the matching items. You can type whole words or part of a word. For example, "ooml" will match all titles with the word "Joomla!" in them.

Quick Tips

    • Users can use any Language from the list of installed Languages, either by having it assigned in the User Manager or by filling out a Menu Item Manager - New/Edit - User Form Layout at the Front end. This will cause the Joomla! system prompts to be generated in this Language just for this User. For example, if a User chooses Spanish as their language, then the Search Module will show with prompts in Spanish. This User's choice is not affected by the Default Language set for the Front-end.
    • Changing a User's Language or the Default Language does not affect the web site's Articles and other content.
    • Important: Do not delete the default language files (for example, with FTP). This will create errors on both the Front-end and Back-end.
    • Additional Content Languages can be added using this screen.
    • If desired, you can show the Front-end site in one Language and show the Back-end administration pages in a different Language. Also, individual articles can be configured to use a different language in the Advanced Parameter pane when editing the Article.
    • Important: In KM FasTrans PRO you will see a language with title 'All-All' that is inserted by the installation script. You will not be able to delete or change this language except for Permissions Management if you are authorised. This is needed for the PRO version in order to support the content language permissions feature. See KM FasTrans - New/Edit - Content Language Screen.
